We have some exciting news #ForTheAnimals! Yesterday, January 13, 2021, the Texas Sunset Commission voted to maintain the Licensed Breeders Program under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Per the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), the Program, established in 2011, sets basic standards of care in large-scale breeding facilities and prevents animal cruelty by allowing the state to inspect breeding facilities before opening and to conduct out-of-cycle inspections. The Program also prevents bad actors with animal cruelty charges from legally running a commercial breeding operation.
As an organization dedicated to ending the homelessness and suffering of companion animals and elevating their status in society, we were proud to support the fight to save this Program, but it would not have been possible without you.
The 87th Texas Legislature kicked-off earlier this week, and we have a long few months ahead of us working #ForTheAnimals, but today we celebrate this win and we thank you for your continued commitment to our efforts.
